Otra sugerencia de escapada muy atractiva: el Parque Natural de las Hoces del Duratón, situado en la zona Oeste de Segovia, a poco más de una hora desde Madrid.
En las inmediaciones de Sepúlveda y Sebulcor, el curso del río Duratón horadó un área de roca caliza, dando origen a esta brecha serpenteante a lo largo de unos 27 kilómetros. 
En algunas zonas, las escarpadas paredes superan los cien metros de altura, formando un paisaje de singular belleza.Entre la variada fauna que habita el parque natural, destacan las aves (alimoches, águilas reales, halcón peregrino, cernícalo, etc.) y, muy especialmente, el buitre leonado, que tiene aquí una de sus mayores colonias.
En las hoces hay una prolongada tradición de asentamientos eremíticos. Entre ellos, sobresale el caso de tres hermanos, que llegarían a ser santos: Frutos, Engracia y Valentín, ricos herederos en el siglo VII de la fortuna familiar, que decidieron entregarla a los pobres y marcharon como ermitaños a las orillas del río Duratón, dedicándose por separado a una vida de soledad, oración y penitencia. A San Frutos le atribuye la tradición varios hechos milagrosos durante la invasión musulmana. La ermita que hoy se conserva bajo su advocación agrupa un primitivo cenobio benedictino, al que se añade a partir de 1093 la iglesia en sí, con los ábsides laterales, y que es una de las construcciones románicas más antiguas.
El convento o monasterio franciscano de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de la Hoz se alzaba en lo alto de una de las curvas del cañón. La Reina Isabel la Católica contribuyó a su reedificación y consta que Felipe II también lo visitó y dio limosna. Hoy se conservan sus ruinas, con algunos muros en pie.Hay una parte del cañón en la que está permitida la navegación con piragua. Varias empresas, como Hoces del Duratón S.L. o Naturaltur, ofrecen el servicio de rutas, facilitando equipamiento y monitor. Son aguas mansas y no hay que tener ningún conocimiento especial para atreverse con esta actividad: baste decir que hasta yo he navegado varias veces en piragua de dos plazas o en kayak individual por el Duratón; no hay prueba más concluyente de que está al alcance de cualquiera :-).
En el recorrido en estas embarcaciones se tiene la oportunidad de discurrir por el río, en medio de las hoces, contemplar desde abajo la ermita de San Frutos y los restos del Monasterio de la Hoz y ver muy de cerca los buitres, que anidan en las paredes y que continuamente sobrevuelan el río. Una experiencia espectacular y recomendable.
